Air conditioners are absolute life-savers during summers, aren’t they? If you believe so, then a little care towards your equipment certainly wouldn’t hurt. Here are a few tips for maximizing your packaged unit’s useful life along with its operational efficiency:

Cleaning air system’s evaporator

The evaporator is surely going to be located somewhere above the furnace. You might not be able to access it easily, but still, it needs to be cleaned AT LEAST once every year. If it is inaccessible, i.e. it is stored in a sealed box, do not attempt to open it.

If it is foil-wrapped, the evaporator can be easily cleaned by removing the foil and use a brush to clean the upper side. For the tray, simply take it out, get it cleaned, and put a pinch of bleach in the tray to avoid any dangerous growth of fungi.

Keeping the condenser working with peace

Do not let any grass or debris grow/pile up in front of the condenser fan. Remove it so that the condenser can work with maximum efficiency. Keep the concrete pad absolutely level. Use the carpenter’s level tool to determine if the weight is equal at both sides.
